We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful, spacious and tastefully decorated property for a week during August 2018. The house, which has everything you need for a peaceful week away, is located in a pleasant and very quiet little village. We loved the pool and the kids really enjoyed playing table tennis and pool in the games room. Julie and Paul were friendly and welcoming and we really appreciated the ‘welcome basket’. We have no hesitation in recommending this property. It was truly lovely!

The World’s most amazing “gite”, in the middle of Burgundy, a few miles from Chablis. Julie has created an insanely cozy retreat where nature, peace and good, close life come all the way into the heart. This place is designed with a positive hand for the cosy, without it being too feminine. Everywhere there are funny things, crooked gadgets and authentic style. 2 meters from the terrace graze the cows, the chickens are chuckling in the backyard and the pool is nice cooling when it’s 34 degrees outside.

I did not have a chance to write anything in your visitor’s book before we left, but now that we are back in Wiltshire and getting back to normal, reflecting on last week I felt I could not let it pass without comment. Our stay at The Old Café was most enjoyable, we loved your gite and we were most grateful to you both for making us so welcome.
Gigny is such a wonderfully unspoilt French village, full of character, but in many ways for me the highlight were the sights, sounds and smells of flourishing agriculture that took me back to my childhood on my grandfather’s farm in Essex and to my brief period as a temporary farm labourer before I joined the army. Happy days, a very long time ago!
I thought this was one of the nicest and most appealing parts of France in which we had stayed over the course of many years and we would certainly recommend it to any of our friends who do not wish to travel too far on holiday.

Lovely and relaxing holiday
What a lovely time we had at the gite. We arrived the Saturday to a very warm welcome from Julie, she was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The house was lovely and spacious as was the outside areas, our eldest loved the pool and play area! The gite had everything we needed for our stay and Julie and Paul were very friendly. Would definitely come back!

Relaxing holiday in Burgundy
We really liked our stay in the Old Cafe! The house is very spacious, with a living/dining area, a cosy sitting room for the evenings and a seperate kitchen. Also the rooms upstairs have a really good size. In every room it is possible to fit an extra bed or cot without any problem. All the house is very nice decoreated as well! The garden is a real children’s Paradise! Our little ones from 2,5y and 3y enjoyed the back garden a lot, with the swings, the little bikes, the treehouse and the trampoline. Everywhere Julie and Paul created sitting areas. We even used twice the swimming pool during our stay (yes, even so late in the season)! The pool is also very nice and has a good size. Also the environment of the Old Café offers a lot for everyone. After every corner a new splendid view and a cute little village! We visited some wine caves to taste and buy Chablis (just ring at the door), loved the medieval villages of Flavigny-sur-Serein (anis candy!) and Noyers, visited the splendid properties of Abbay de Fontenay and Tanlay chateau and had good times visiting Auxerre, Chatillon-sur-Seine and Tonnere. The restaurants in the region all offer very nice lunch menus at incredible prices (13/15 euro for a set 3 course menu). We loved Le Maronnier in Buffon, La Grange (Flavigny) and La crêperie du Port (Tanlay). Also very nice restaurants in Noyer! The bakery in Laignes is not bad at all for morning bread. For something special, try the bakery “la tentation” in Tonnerre. Overall, we are very satisfied with our stay in the Old Cafe and are certainly thinking of coming back. One tip: if the washing machine in the kitchen would be replaced by a dishwasher, the kitchen would be perfect 🙂
